What We Won
We won in the Category of Interview & Discussion. Of all the submissions in this category for 2014, only 5 pieces were nominated for this award this year and the Allen Family feature was the only one selected for an Emmy.
About Our Entry
The 3-part feature originally aired as part of the HEAT's 6th annual Kids' Day show on March 1st, 2014. The series was entitled Food, Family & Fatherhood and focused on the Allen family's commitment to a healthy lifestyle. With emmy-award winning host, Jason Jackson, as their guest, Shannon & Ray Allen prepared a nutrtious meal for the entire family. Ray & Jason talked about various aspects of fatherhood and then the entire family gathered (including 4 of the Allen children) in order to enjoy the fruits of their hard work and some fun filled discussion.
What We Submitted With the Entry
"Few athletes would grant the kind of time and access necessary to tell a story the quality of which was revealed in our 3-part series entitled food, family and fatherhood. But then, few men and even fewer families are like that of Ray & Shannon Allen. A featured that focused on ways in which families can indeed adopt healthy habits for eating was a fitting part of our pre, half & post-game coverage during the annual Miami HEAT Kids Day broadcast. Ray and his wife Shannon invited our crew and host, Jason Jackson, into their home for the preparation and consumption of a family meal. Humor and humility were two of the key ingredients included in this entertaining and endearing look at several off-the-court aspects of family life in the Allen household. And be sure to catch the ending…as no meal is complete…until the dishes are done!"
